On Thursday I exposed my 8th graders to their final unit's project with a WQ . I explained - again - what we are going to do and how it is going to be done, in our regular classroom. Then, we went to the computers classroom where I already wrote the URL and the instructions on the board. Part of the instructions was that - as Nada suggested - they need to call me after they enter each page and task so that I can grade them accordingly. Unfortunately, most of them opened facebook (and games), although I forbade it and in spite of the fact that it cost them points.
I must admit I am disapointed and frustrated.
The "lights in the tunnel" are my 10th graders who, in spite of their difficulties, are showing interest and a will to learn.
Hi Nourit,
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to tell you that I have the sample of students;however instead of grade 8 it's grade 9 students (although I'm trying my project task with other classes too), where I got a completely negative feedback from the students.Hope you read my blog and it will bring you some peace of mind that you are not alone in facing these kind of challenges.Keep up the hope and the good work.
Regards,
Eugenie
Hi Nourit,
ReplyDeleteI'm posting here to tell you that I admire your Nicenet class. Great job! I have leaned from your work that we can do other things in Nicenet class. At first, I think it's just the place we privately discuss among peers in a group. I know now we can do more................I also create my Nicenet class for my students but I only ask them to express their idea toward my set topic. I have ideas to add in my Nicenet now. Thankssssssss.
Best,
Moo
Hello Nourit
ReplyDeleteWow, you and Eugenie have had bad luck. I wonder if it is the age group, at least in part.
There is a saying, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." I am starting to wonder if using Facebook as a tool might not be part of the solution?!?
